In 1944, Sam Phillips donated Hope Boat Ramp to Marion County to provide public access to Lake Weir, Marion County’s largest lake. Improvements such as floating docks were installed to allow boaters easy access to their boats when the lake levels fluctuate thanks in part to a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant from the State of Florida in the amount of $135,611.
On May 21, 2011, a grand reopening ceremony & facility dedication took place to honor Mr. Phillips' generous gift to Marion County citizens. Eleanor Redding, Mr. Phillips daughter, was in attendance at the event. The Hope Boat Ramp is available exclusively to Marion County park pass holders.
