The Engineering Services Section supports Marion County’s infrastructure through the planning, design, right of way acquisition, and construction of transportation improvement projects. Meeting project timelines and budget requirements is a priority. All work is continuously coordinated with other County departments, consultants, utilities, contractors, developers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies at the federal, state, and municipal levels.
Core services
Survey
Provides field surveys, maintains County surveying records, performs plan reviews, and completes related technical support services.
Design
Prepares designs, plans, and specifications for in-house projects, manages consultants for larger projects, manages roadway project files, coordinates with regulatory agencies, and delivers AutoCAD and technical drafting services.
Asset management
Maintains and tracks transportation assets using database and GIS mapping tools. Transportation assets generally include roadways, sidewalks, bridges, traffic signs/signals, and stormwater infrastructure. The asset data is continually updated and is used to support project planning, prioritization, and budgeting.
Construction inspection
Oversees day-to-day construction activities by contractors for County projects delivered by consultants and in-house staff. In addition, the team reviews and inspects private development activities, driveway connections, and utility work within public rights-of-way.
Right-of-way acquisition and property management
Acquires required rights-of-way and easements for County projects and supports all County departments with County-owned property involving transactions.
We also process plat vacation & road closing applications as well as facilitate surplus property sales.
