NOTICE OF ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
FOR VACANCIES ON VOLUNTEER ADVISORY BOARDS 

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners currently has vacancies on the following volunteer boards:

  1. Industrial Development Authority

One (1) Full Member
Applicants must be residents and electors of Marion County.  Members serve 4 year terms.

Responsibilities:  Consider industrial and manufacturing projects with appurtenant facilities and determine the appropriateness of financing such projects through the issuance of industrial development bonds.

2.             Code Enforcement Board

Two (2) Alternate Members
Members shall be residents of Marion County.  Applicants should have experience or interest in zoning and building control.

Responsibilities:  Members have the jurisdiction to hear and decide alleged violations of County ordinances, subpoena alleged violators and witnesses to its hearings; take testimony under oath; issue orders having the force and effect of law including establishment and levy of fines pursuant to County Ordinance. 

Alternate members attend meetings when one or more regular members are unable to attend.

3.             License Review Board

Two (2) Alternate Members
Applicants should be licensed building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, aluminum, heating/cooling, or general contractors.

Responsibilities: Investigates and hears complaints regarding competency of licensed contractors; may suspend or revoke a contractor’s certificate of competency; may issue letters of reprimand; may authorize building department officials to withhold issuance of a building permit based on status of contractor’s license. 

4.             Housing Finance Authority

Two (2) Full Members
Applicants shall be residents and registered voters in Marion County.  Members serve 4 year terms.

Responsibilities:  Members consider financing, acquisition, construction and rehabilitation of housing in Marion County pursuant to Part IV of Chapter 159 F.S. and Marion Co. Ordinance 80-3. 

5.             Marion Hospital District Board of Trustees

Two (2) Full Members/Seats Vacant
Applicants must be qualified electors residing in Marion County for more than one (1) year prior to their appointment.  One (1) seat must be filled by a member of the medical profession licensed to practice medicine in the state, be a member of the medical staff of a hospital operated by the board, and be of different specialties and shall not during their term as trustee serve any other hospital as a director-trustee or exercise any management function of such other hospital. 

Responsibilities:  Oversee the Marion County Hospital District created by a special act of the Florida Legislature.        

6.             Board of Adjustment

Two (2) Full Members
Members must be residents of Marion County and registered voters.

Responsibilities:   Review and make decisions under the Marion County Land Development Code regarding citizen requests for variances or special exceptions.  Hear and decide appeals concerning interpretations of the Land Development Code by the Zoning Department Manager. Alternate members may act in the temporary absence or disability of any regular member or may act when a regular member is otherwise disqualified in a particular case that may be presented to the Board of Adjustment.

  

7.             Fire Rescue EMS Advisory Board

One (1) Full Member
Appointee shall be a representative selected by majority vote of the Board of County Commissioners from one of the full service hospitals within Marion County and shall serve a four (4) year term.

Responsibilities:  Members shall act primarily in an advisory role to the BCC regarding levels of service, long-range master plans, capital improvement plans and budgets.

Applications for said vacancies may be obtained at the Marion County Board of County Commissioners’ Office located at 601 S.E. 25th Ave., Ocala, Florida; online at www.marioncountyfl.org or by calling 352-438-2323.
The deadline for receiving applications is April 25, 2014 at 5 p.m.  The Marion County Board of County Commissioners plans to appoint members on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, or as soon thereafter as possible.
