The Marshall Swamp Trailhead is part of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, which was once part of the Cross Florida Barge Canal.

In 1999, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Division of Greenways & Trails subleased the Marshall Swamp/Baseline portion of the greenway to Marion County for “conservation & protection of natural & historical resources & for resource-based public outdoor recreation.” Amenities at the Marshall Swamp Trailhead include a stabilized parking area, restroom, & 2.5-mile walking trail connecting to the Baseline Road Trailhead.
